CUMBERLAND - Allegany College of Maryland fought back after allowing Garrett a three-run home run in the top of the first inning, and collected a 7-6 win over the Lakers when Drew Suttmiller singled home Matt Gruber in the bottom of the ninth.
Corey Carr gave Garrett a 3-0 lead in the first when he homered with two men on. From there, Allegany's Bobby Hartman pitched well enough to get the Trojans in position to win. He finished with eight strikeouts and allowed two runs after the first inning.
The Trojans scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, and took a 6-5 lead on three runs in the seventh. Suttmiller finished with two hits and had two other runs batted in to go with his game-winner.
Lee Bainbridge hit a double and single and scored a run, and Taylor Wheaton finished with two singles and two RBIs. Cody Young hit a triple, and scored on a double from A.J. Czap.
"It showed we had some character to be able to come back after falling behind quickly," said ACM coach Steve Bazarnic. "Garrett is a very good team, and it showed something that the boys didn't give in."
Leading Garrett at the plate, after Carr, was Alex Barth and Joe Wilt with two hits each. Barth scored two runs, and Wilt drove in a pair. Jordan Tetrick hit a pinch-hit double in the eighth, and Keith Johnson hit a RBI single.
The Trojans (3-3 overall, 2-0 JUCO) play one game today at Southern Maryland, at 3 p.m. Garrett (4-3) plays Saturday in Myrtle Beach against Lakeland at 3 p.m.
