Cumberland Times-News
Mercer 5, Garrett 2 Musatine 5, Garrett 4
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - A throwing error doomed Garrett, as the Lakers dropped a 5-4, extra-inning affair to Muscatine (Iowa) in the afternoon after losing 5-2 to Mercer (N.J.) in the morning.
The Lakers were stifled by the combination of three pitchers in the loss to Mercer. Garrett was on the wrong side of a no-hitter until Zach Nair got a pinch-hit single in the sixth. The Lakers would get one more hit, and score two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Mercer finished with only four hits, but got all the offense it would need by scoring three times in the second inning.
Adam Cox led the Vikings with a home run in the top of the seventh.
Against Muscatine, Garrett scored a run in the top of the eighth inning on a K.J. Ventry double that scored Kris Torrance, who led off the inning with a single.
The Indians got runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth with a single and a walk. A base hit to right field scored the tying run, and a throwing error allowed the winning run to cross the plate.
Winning pitcher Jeff Potter struck out 11 in a complete-game effort seven-hitter.
Garrett (5-7) plays Sullivan County (N.Y.) today at 3 p.m.

Parkland scored the first run in the top of the third inning and increased its lead to 3-0 with two runs in the fourth inning.
