FROSTBURG - Rocky Pfisterer homered in both games and went 5-for-7 with eight RBIs on the afternoon to power Lake Erie to a 5-3, 8-6 sweep of Frostburg State at Bob Wells Field.
The wins lift Lake Erie to 3-9 overall and 3-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Frostburg State dropped to 3-9, and 0-2.
Pfisterer accounted for all of the Storm's runs in the first game. He singled home a run and scored in a two-run second, then belted a three-run homer in the third to give Lake Erie a 5-0 lead.
The Bobcats rallied with three runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double by Brett Mitchell.
Lake Erie reliever Dan Shreve shut down the Bobcats the rest of the way. He allowed one hit and struck out three over the final 2 1-3 innings. Because of five Lake Erie errors, all three of FSU's runs were unearned.
Pfisterer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs in the opener. Mitchell led Frostburg, going 3-for-4 with a double, two singles and two RBIs.
Freddy Foshay (2-2) allowed five runs and six hits in four innings and was charged with the loss.
Lake Erie used two big innings - a five-run fifth and a three-run seventh - to win the second game and sweep the doubleheader.
Andrew Speights had two doubles and Allen Peake homered and singled for Frostburg. Joe Daddura had two singles and two RBIs.
FSU, which led briefly 1-0 after four innings, rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Down 8-3, Peake hit a two-run homer to make it 8-5. Speights followed with a double and scored on a single by Joe Daddura to make it 8-6 and bring the potential winning run to the plate.
Lake Erie reliever Dempsey got the final out on a shallow fly ball to end the game.
