ACM wins two

Sweeps W.Va. Wesleyan JVs, record now 16-5

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - Erik Kempton earned the save in the first game, and then pitched five innings to collect the win in the second game as the Allegany College of Maryland improved to 16-5 after taking a doubleheader from the West Virginia Wesleyan jayvees Monday in Buckhannon.

The Trojans scored five runs in the first two innings to help carry them to an 8-5 victory in the first game, and Cody Young continued an impressive day with four hits and five runs scored as ACM won the second game 11-7.

Dale Coombe got his second win and Kempton his second save in the opening-game victory. Kempton entered in the seventh after Wesleyan had already scored three times, and stopped the bleeding.

Young started his day by grabbing two hits, one a double, and scoring two runs. A.J. Czap also had two hits and scored two runs, and Drew Suttmiller finished with a two-run double and drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. Jerry Lloyd got the Trojans on the board with a bases clearing double in the first inning.

Marcus DeLung had two hits, and Ross Ware had three hits and two RBIs for the Bobcats.

Young hit a solo home run in the fifth inning of his four-hit, five-run performance to lead the 13-hit Trojans attack.

Czap provided another strong showing at the plate with a triple, a double, a single and two runs batted in. Lee Bainbridge launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning, and Drew Suttmiller knocked in three with a single and a sac fly. Brad Kling doubled and singled.

Adam Lewton, Solice Travise and Nathan Gainer all had two hits for Wesleyan.

The Trojans play again today at 2 p.m., when they host Montgomery-Germantown.
