Garrett splits with Lackawanna, 8-1 and 2-8

MCHENRY - Alex Anderson had two hits and David Angle had an RBI double in the first inning as the Garrett Lakers won the first game of a doubleheader split with Lackawanna (N.Y.) 8-1 Sunday afternoon at Garrett College.

Matt Norton's and Andrew Rossi's three hits led Lackawanna over Garrett 8-2 in the second game.

In the opener, the Lakers scored seven runs over the first two innings while winning pitcher Brandon Piper kept Lackawanna in check with six strikeouts. Piper, along with reliever Reed Alfieri who came on in the seventh inning, held Lackawanna to only three hits and gave up one run.

In the second game, Lackawanna turned the tables on the Lakers by scoring four runs in the first inning en route to an 8-2 victory. Norton and Rossi had six of Lackwanna's 13 hits. Winning pitcher Todd Craig finished with eight strikeouts.

Garrett was held to five hits and scored a run in the first and third innings. Northern graduate Corey Carr had two doubles.

The Lakers (11-11) will host Montgomery-Rockville in a 2 p.m. doubleheader today.
