KEYSER, W.Va. - Jacke Healey drove in five runs and hit his seventh home run of the season leading Potomac State past Garrett 14-4 in their junior college baseball game Wednesday at Golden Park.
Healey hit a two-run blast in the second inning, had a two-run double in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the fifth to raise his batting average to .508.
Jason Lombard also homered for the Catamounts in their eight-run second inning. He also tripled for the Catamounts (15-4).
Andy Altemus (4-1) pitched six shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out six.
Kris Torrence hit a seventh-inning grand slam to account for all of the runs for Garrett (13-12).
Mike Smith was 3-for-4 with two triples, a single and an RBI for Potomac State.
Smith led off the second with a triple and scored on a throwing error when Kevin Griffin reached on a fielder's choice.
Chris Szafran doubled home Griffin, and Healey homered for a quick 4-0 lead. After a walk and an error, Kyle Orensky blooped a two-run single that was followed by Lombard's home run that made it 8-0.
Back-to-back triples by Smith and Lombard keyed the fourth inning.
Healy doubled home two more runs to increase the lead to 11-0. A run-scoring double by Griffin and Healey's final RBI made it 13-0 in the fifth.
Potomac State hosts West Virginia Wesleyan in a 1 p.m. twinbill today.
Garrett plays again Friday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Salem (N.J.).
