HAGERSTOWN — Kyle Chronister singled and hit a sacrifice fly to knock in two runs to lift the Hagerstown Community College Hawks over the Garrett College Lakers.
The Hawks’ run in the first inning, giving them a 1-0 lead, was an unearned run, with Chronister knocking in his runs in the third and the fifth to give Hagerstown a 3-0 lead. Justin Stouffer had three singles, and Michael Knight had two singles.
K.J. Ventry singled twice for Garrett, and Justin Quinn had an RBI double to give the Lakers their first run in the sixth inning.
The Lakers added another run in the eighth inning to close to within 3-2, then had runners on first and second in the ninth before Hagerstown reliever Jason Sutherland forced Ventry to pop out to end the game.
Greg Beachy started and worked the first six innings to take the loss for the Lakers. Spencer Cromer worked the first eight innings for the Hawks to gain the win.
Garrett (13-14-1) will play two Thursday at home against Allegany, beginning at 3 p.m.
