Late rally lifts Cats to victory

WYE MILLS — Potomac State came back from a 3-0 deficit with four runs in the eighth inning and tacked another one in the ninth to defeat Chesapeake, 5-3, in college baseball Wednesday at Chesapeake.
Trailing by three, the Catamounts started the eighth with three singles, and with one out, they scored on a sacrifice fly before Kyle Orensky doubled home two runs to tie the score. Jason Lombard followed with a single to bring Orensky home and give Potomac State a 4-3 lead.
In the ninth, Kevin Griffin hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored a single by Brock Stevens.
Justin Grantham was 3-for-4 with three singles for the Catamounts. Griffin singled and doubled and Mike Smith singled twice.
Tony Mitchell singled three times for Chesapeake.
Potomac State (20-4) will host Monroe, N.Y. in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
