Garrett sweeps Trojans

McHENRY - Corey Carr singled home K.J. Ventry in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Garrett to a 10-9 win over Allegany and complete the sweep of the Trojans after the Lakers won the opener 10-3.

Garrett improves to 15-14-1 with the pair of victories and is now 4-4-1 in the Maryland JUCO Conference. It hosts Frederick today in a noon doubleheader.

Carr broke a 9-9 tie with a single in the seventh, but Garrett trailed 7-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning when it scored four times to tie the score. Joe Wilt drove in three runs with three singles, and Chris Torrance added a double and three singles. Tony Russo also finished with three hits, all singles, and Zach Nair hit a two-run double and added a single.

Adam Delawder and Cody Young each had two basehits for the Trojans.

Garrett was in total control during the first game when it scored six runs in the third to take an 8-0 lead. Nair led off the inning with a home run, and Wilt came through with a two-run double. Wilt added a solo homer in the sixth inning. Carr, Dustin Adams and Ricky Cordido all hit two singles.

Lee Bainbridge had a double and a single for Allegany.

The Lakers finished the day with 29 hits in the two games, compared to 11 from the Trojans.

Allegany has dropped four straight to fall to 17-11 overall and 8-6 in the JUCO. It will host Anne Arundel on Saturday in a doubleheader.
