Frostburg beats Shenandoah, 9-6

FROSTBURG - Sophomore Joe Garrity hit a grand slam in the third inning to help Frostburg State to a 9-6 win over Shenandoah in a non-league baseball game, Thursday.
The game was tied at 3-3 in the top of the third when a single, a wild pitch and a hit batter loaded the bases for Garrity's first collegiate home run.
The Hornets (17-16) plated a single run in the bottom of the third to narrow the score to 7-4. SU would further cut into the Frostburg State lead with another single run in the fifth as the score stood at 7-5.
The Bobcats (10-9) scored one in the sixth and one in the seventh as they extended their lead to 9-5 before a Hornet run in the eighth brought the scoring to a close. Senior Brett Mitchell hit a solo home run in the sixth and senior Andrew Speights scored on a ground out in the eighth for the final Bobcat runs.
Garrity finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs, two runs scored and the home run while Mitchell was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Junior Kyle Timme earned his first win of the season after pitching five innings and allowing five runs.
Frostburg State hosts AMCC opponent Hilbert at Bob Wells Field on Saturday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
