ARNOLD - Brock Stevens homered in extra innings to lift Potomac State in the first game, and Nathan Fike chucked a no-hitter in the second as the Catamounts swept Anne Arundel Wednesday.
Stevens connected with a pitch in the top of the ninth inning with two runners on to break a 2-2 tie and send the Cats to a 5-2 victory. Fike recorded seven strikeouts and four walks while keeping the Pioneers hitless over five innings in a 13-0 win of the second game.
Potomac State scored seven runs in the first inning of the shutout with the help of a Matt Schrader grand slam and a two-run homer from Mike Smith. Schrader added two singles and one RBI to his total. Justin Grantham added two singles and two RBIs.
PSC head coach Doug Little said it was the best stuff Fike has shown all year.
"It was probably the first time all season he had all three of his pitches going - his fastball, curveball and change-up. He was able to get ahead of the hitters and go to his off-speed stuff. He did a great job of changing speed and location."
Stevens finished with four RBIs in the first game after adding an RBI double to his home run. Jason Lombard hit two singles, and Jacke Healey was also 2-for-3. Andy Altemus recorded 11 strikeouts while earning the win.
The Cats (28-7) play at 1 p.m. on Saturday in a doubleheader at Cecil.
