Pitching reigned supreme in the Garrett/Chesapeake doubleheader as the Skipjacks won two tight games over the Lakers.
Brian Wolford and Craig Custer combined for 12 strikeouts and held Garrett to just three hits in a 2-0 win in the opener.
Chesapeake scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and win 2-1 in the second game.
John Garvey hit a two-run single for the Jacks in the second inning to account for all of the offense in the opener. Lance Gregory finished with two singles.
Ricardo Cordido hit a double and a single, and Kris Torrence singled for all three of Garrett’s hits.
Wolford delivered a bases-loaded single in the seventh inning of the second game to give the win to Chesapeake. Craig Lidell had two singles and a double.
Garrett (20-23-1, 9-12-1 JUCO) got a double from David Angle, while Chris Palmer singled and drove in the only run on a suicide squeeze.
The losses mean Garrett will be the sixth seed in the Region XX, Division I tournament. The Lakers will play Anne Arundel in a play-in game with the date and time still to be determined.
Today at noon the Lakers host Essex in a doubleheader.
