Frostburg picked sixth in AMCC

GIBSONIA, Pa. - The Frostburg State softball team has been picked sixth in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's coaches.

Pitt-Bradford has been chosen to capture the league title while Penn State Behrend is tabbed second. La Roche is third while Medaille and Lake Erie are picked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Penn State Behrend swept the AMCC preseason awards. Nikki Kashauer is the Preseason Player of the Year after hitting .607 with 16 RBIs during AMCC action last spring while being named the ECAC Division III Southern Player of the Year. Julie Koman took home the Preseason Pitcher of the Year award after posting a 19-6 overall record and a 1.56 ERA.

The 2008 Bobcats have a pair of student-athletes who could make an impact in this year season's AMCC standings. Senior catcher Amanda Baldwin started in every game last season and was named to the league's honorable mention team. She hit .271 with 26 hits and 10 RBIs.

Sophomore starter Katelyn Coffey will lead the FSU pitching staff this season. At the conclusion of last spring, she was named the conference's Co-Newcomer of the Year after posting nine wins and five shutouts including a perfect game against Penn State Altoona.

FSU opens its season this weekend at the Beach Blast in Virginia Beach, Va.
