HAGERSTOWN - Out on the field for the first time all season, Potomac State showed its greenness by being swept 22-1 and 12-4 Sunday afternoon in Hagerstown.
The Catamounts trailed 5-1 in the first game when the Hawks brought 12 runners across the plate in the bottom of the third inning to blow the game open. Sam Koehl was the winning pitcher and clubbed three triples, and Kayla Martin hit a triple and two doubles. Jess Patoy added a solo home run as the Hawks finished with a total of 22 hits as well.
Brittany Wright hit a pair of singles for PSC, and Ashley Conners hit a run scoring single in the second inning.
The Cats trailed the Hawks 5-4 after three innings in the second game, but Hagerstown scored seven more runs over the final three innings, and finished with 20 hits in the win.
Koehl again finished with three hits, a triple and two singles, and Kay Beaver singled for times for Hagerstown.
Lindsey Twigg doubled for Potomac.
"I was glad to finally be able to get out on the field," said PSC coach Jim Walton. "I was worried about things like plate discipline, but we were okay there. Hagerstown just crushed the ball off of us."
The Catamounts (0-2) will play a doubleheader on Saturday at Cecil Community College.
