Frostburg drops pair

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Frostburg State had a rough start to the first day of the Snowbird Softball Tournament dropping games to Shawnee State, 18-1, and St. Joseph's (N.Y.), 2-1, Monday.

The Bobcats (1-5) hurt themselves in the loss to Shawnee. FSU committed seven errors and the Bears used an eight-run second inning and a four-run fourth in a game that lasted just five innings.

Frostburg State, which allowed just five earned runs, plated its only run in the third. The Bobcats finished with five hits while the Bears registered 15.

Amanda Baldwin was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI while Lindsay Seal was also 2-for-3.

In the second game of the day, St. Joe's scored in the bottom of the eighth to earn the victory.

Brooke Tapman tied it with a solo homer in the sixth for FSU.

St. Joe's pitcher Jennifer Martinez struckout 20 in the win. Katelyn Coffey absorbed the loss, scattering 10 hits and striking out five in 7 2-3 innings.

Frostburg State plays Baptist Bible this morning at 9:30.
