Catamounts win pair in Snowbird

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Ashley Metcalfe shut down the Clark (Ohio) State batters in the first game, and Potomac State belted 18 hits in the second as the Catamounts swept the Eagles Wednesday in the Snowbird Classic.
Metcalfe struck out six, walked one and allowed no earned runs in a 9-1 PSC win in the opener. Michelle Cain's home run led a Catamount attack in a 9-7 second-game win.
In the opener, Potomac led 1-0 before scoring five times in the third inning, and three times over the next two innings to close out the five-inning contest.
Morgan Shockey had a double and two singles for the Cats, and Brittany Wright finished with a double and a single. Sam Patton and Jen Shuke doubled.
Darcie Muncy had a double and a single for the Eagles.
Potomac State and Clark were tied 5-5 after five innings of the second game, but PSC scored two in the fifth and another pair in the seventh to get the victory.
Cain smacked a solo home run in the seventh inning, and added another RBI on two singles. Patton added two RBIs with a double and a single, and Morgan Mitchell knocked in two runs with two singles. Shockey hit a double and a single to add to her day's total.
Metcalfe got the start, was relieved by Ashly Sites in the third, and re-entered during the seventh. Sites and Metcalfe combined for eight strikeouts and three walks.
PSC (10-6) is 6-2 during the Snowbird Classic and will finish its trip by playing DuPage and Clark State today.
