YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — Lindsay Twigg smacked a two-run home run in the fifth inning to lift Potomac State to a 3-2 win over Westmoreland for a split of their softball doubleheader that gave the Catamounts of the Western Maryland Collegiate Conference regular-season championship.
Twigg’s homer came with one out in the fifth and snapped a 1-1 tie.
Twigg led the Catamounts from the plate and on the mound in the conference-clincher. She scattered four hits, with four being singles, and walked only two in getting the win.
Brittany Wright added three hits, including a double, and drove in the first run for Potomac State. Morgan Mitchell ripped two doubles.
Potomac State finished the regular season with a 17-9 record and won the conference with a 7-1 record. The Catamounts will be the top seed in the conference tournament, which begins April 18 at Westmoreland.
Westmoreland won the first game, 9-2.
Nikki Lindberg, who scattered four hits and fanned 12 for the win, aided her cause at the plate with a double and a single. Jessica Lint had two doubles and a single.
Wright and Twigg doubled for Potomac State. Ashley Metcalfe singled twice.
