GIBSONIA, Pa. - The Frostburg State softball team landed three student-athletes on the 2008 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference softball team that was released Tuesday.
The Bobcats (21-22, 9-9) had a strong finish to their spring season, winning five of their final seven games including a run to the AMCC Tournament championship before falling to rival Penn State Behrend.
This season, FSU had two players selected to the all-conference second team: sophomore Katelyn Coffey and freshman Brooke Tapman; and one named to the third team: sophomore Samantha Quirin
Coffey, the AMCC Newcomer of the Year last season, finished the year 16-8 overall with 125 strikeouts in 169.1 innings. She was 7-3 in the AMCC and finished the season first in innings pitched (169.1), second in ERA (2.15), third in batters struckout (125), appearances (27) and games started (23).
Tapman led Frostburg State in just about every statistical category at the plate. She finished first in batting average (.364), slugging percentage (.627), hits (43), doubles (11) and RBIs (35) and she was second in at bats (118), runs (29) and home runs (6) and on-base percentage (.419). She hit a pair of home runs in the AMCC Tournament, helping FSU to the championship game.
Quirin had a breakout season this spring at the plate. With three home runs in a doubleheader against Hilbert in late April, Quirin set the individual single-season home run mark (7). She finished second on the team in total bases (66), third in slugging percentage (.508), hits (37), RBIs (28) and doubles (8) and fourth in runs scored (26).
