Today is time to love and feel loved

David Sandvick, Columnist

Today is St. Valentine's Day. For some, images of sweets, special dinners and diamonds come to mind. Others, however, will be reminded to rush out to the store hoping it's not too late to find one of the last remaining cards.

It is a time to love and feel loved. Even for those who find themselves alone, it is a time to appreciate the opportunity of love in the past. I am one of the fortunate ones, still loved and still loving after 27 years.

The world is full of famous love relationships. Some of them tragic, some unrequited, and others the stuff dreams are made of. Consider Charlie Brown and the little red-haired girl or perhaps Bogie and Bacall. And don't forget Maria and Captain Von Trapp or Maxwell Smart and Agent 99.

All of them, in fact, had unique relationships that made one so endearing to the other. That is what is so special about love. Every union is different, evolving and vibrant.

Of course, the most important relationship is that of our Almighty God and us. Through Jesus, God has made a way for any of us to know him and have a relationship with him. God wants our walk with him to be vibrant and living as well. You can grow closer to God by being an active part of a good church.

On this Valentine's Day, if you are fortunate enough to be loved by someone you don't deserve, to have someone who brings out the best in you and makes you glad you are in love, let them know how you feel. Don't let the three most important words go unsaid today. Say it in a song, a card, or a letter, but let it be known how you feel.

Don't let the one you love feel like Charlie Brown when he said, "There must be millions of people around the world who never get any love letters. I could be their leader." Happy Valentine's Day.
