CUMBERLAND — Dorothy Helen “Dot” (Hess) McHugh, of Cumberland, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at home surrounded by her three girls, Bonnie, Kristi and Lilly.

Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late John A. Hess and Carrie M. Hess. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas P. McHugh on May 30, 1998; a sister, Betty McHugh; her son-in-law whom she loved like a son, John W. Duncan, in 2006; and a nephew, Charles Merbaugh.

Dot was in the first graduating class of Beall High School in 1941. She was employed by the Celanese Corp. in the conning dept. She was Catholic by faith. She and her husband were married on March 19, 1943.

Surviving are her daughter, Bonnie Duncan; granddaughter Kristi Conrad and husband Scott; great-granddaughter Lilly Duncan; sister Joan Merbaugh; nieces Cindy Winner, Sharon Lancaster and husband John, and Melanie Merbaugh; nephew Edward Merbaugh and wife A.J., and several great-nephews and nieces.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at noon with Father Ty Hullinger officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Home Hospice; a wonderful service that let us bring our mom home where she belonged. We will never forget spending those last days with her.
