CUMBERLAND — Earl “Ace” Louis Jewell, 78, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2006, at the WMHS Sacred Heart Campus Hospital.

Born Feb. 14, 1928, in Corriganville, he was the son of the late Paul C. Jewell and Edith E. (Long) Jewell-Cook. Mr. Jewell was also preceded in death by two sisters, Junita Smith and Ethel Schoenadel.

A United States Naval veteran during World War II, Mr. Jewell retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory with 36 years of service. He was a member of the Haystack Mountain Sportsman Club, the Cresaptown Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2883, and the Early Addition Street Rods.

Ace is survived by his former wife, Frances E. Jewell, Cumberland; his sons, James J. Jewell and his wife Jackie, Centerville, Pa.; Michael P. Jewell and his special friend, Sally Shuman; and Robert S. Jewell and his special friend, Lisa Glass, all of LaVale; his daughters, Barbara Ann Martin and her husband Tom, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Carolyn M. Spangler and her husband Bobby; and Terie L. Jewell, all of Cumberland; his brother, Roy Jewell and his wife Jean, Cumberland; as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Sunday, May 21, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, May 22, 2006, at 10 a.m. with Father James Kurtz, O.F.M., Cap., officiating.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
