College Night

Event set for Oct. 13

One of the most informative — and perhaps lucrative — nights of the year will occur for local high school students Oct. 13.

That is the date for the Tri-State College Night, to be held in the Allegany College of Maryland gymnasium from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Representatives from more than 50 colleges, universities, career and technical schools and military branches will be present to talk to students and their parents. The idea is to enable the students to make educated decisions about where they want to continue their education after they graduate from high school.

The evening not only provides valuable information about the various education and career choices, it also will provide $1,400 in scholarships to a few of the lucky students. A random drawing will be held to award four scholarships ranging in value from $200 to $500.

This is the 42nd year that the college night has been held. In the past, the event has attracted thousands of students from Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Some students who are uncertain where they may attend college end up deciding based on what they learn at the college night program. Sponsors are the Allegany County Guidance Counselors Association and Allegany College.

More information about the event is available at the Allegany College of Maryland recruitment office, (301) 784-5165.
