Nothing was helped by delay in reporting computer theft at FSU

CUMBERLAND — Eighty laptop computers worth about $35,000 were stolen from Frostburg State University between June 4 and 5, but this information didn’t make it to the Times-News, and presumably was not released, until June 26 (Page 1B).

With the precipitous decline of trust in government recently, some citizens may wonder why a taxpayer supported institution is not more forthcoming. Crimes happen; such delays in reporting them to the public should not. The delay in reporting the thefts further damages confidence in the probity of FSU in particular and government in general.
