They’ve had time to bring jobs to Allegany County, but failed

My neighbor stopped by my house the other day with the Times-News reader commentary written by the Allegany County Commissioners (“County budget faces reality, looks to future”) on June 13.

As he handed it to me to read, he said that it was well written. After reading it, I agreed, it was well written.

But I asked my neighbor why the commissioners did not mention the number of good paying permanent jobs that they have created, that their constituents desperately need?

He did not respond, and some supporters of the commissioners would say that it is a budget statement, pure and simple.

According to the latest U.S. Census numbers the median household income in the state of Maryland is $72,419 and in Allegany County that median household income is $39,408. Allegany County is the definition of a society left behind.

The commentary was well written but we deserve better. We, the citizens of Allegany County, have given these commissioners two and one-half years to bring good paying permanent jobs to Allegany County; I believe that they have failed us.
