To the Editor:
I am a committee remember on the Tamiami Trail Scenic Highway which stretches from Palmetto to Venice, Fla.
We have designed a logo for this trail and given it its name. We have quarterly meetings, we have government and private citizens attend and our goal is to beautify this trail that has been long neglected.
I have read many articles from the Cumberland Times-News to the Martinsburg Journal on protecting and cleaning up the Potomac River.
Is there any organization, similar to the Tamiami Trail Scenic Highway which protects and beautify the Potomac River but also has meetings which bring the many organizations together along with private citizens and businesses to market and utilize the Potomac River from Cumberland, Maryland to Paw Paw, W.Va. and from Paw Paw to Hancock.
I commend Dee Dee Ritchie for her active involvement with Canal Place but it is not enough. More needs to be done. The possibilities are endless but creativity of bringing people together and developing a game plan is a must.
I would love for the Cumberland Times-News to designate a section for the Potomac River, from Cumberland to Paw Paw, address all the issues along the river on what communities and businesses are doing on protecting and making the river accessible to all.
Let’s protect our river.
