CUMBERLAND - The Allegany High School Web page team has been working hard all year to establish a school Web site that is user-friendly, visually appealing and up-to-date.
"Our site contains a lot of information that parents and community members would want to know," said senior Sarah Foye.
"It's does a good job at linking the school, community and parents," added junior Tanner McKenney.
Before the office technology class took on the task, the school had a Web site that left much to be desired, according to the team members.
"We don't want to even talk about the dark ages," said senior Brenden Sullivan.
When board of education member Tom Striplin learned of the project, he was eager to offer his Web design expertise.
"I did a lot of the back-end work," said Striplin. "This group of students did a great job; they really took charge of the project."
Web team advisers Tamarra Edwards and Karyl Hansen are also impressed with the students' work.
"They really had the dedication and ability to learn things on their own to create something of value to the community and to the school itself," said Edwards.
The site contains photo galleries, school forms, an events calendar, current news and many other features.
"We also want to be able to communicate with alumni," said Hansen.
"We're also looking into selling things online," said senior Justin Beeler.
School merchandise and historical books produced by students in Brian White's historical methods class are among the items that may be sold online.
"This has really been a good learning experience, not only in technology but also in gathering information," said Sullivan.
The web team is comprised of Foye, McKenney, Sullivan, Beeler, John Coleman, Brian Hallee, Joseph Dean, Phillip Border, Gustavo Pasten, Jeremy Bentham, Patrick Thomas, Christon Wilson, Ron Diehl and Albert Pannone.
