John Taube, Allegany County Library System director, left, and Ted Troxell, show one of the new books purchased as a gift from the estate of Cumberland native and longtime city resident Nora Troxell who died April 14, 2008. The bequest of $38,000 is in memory of Ted’s mother, who was a librarian at the Cumberland Public Library with Mary Walsh. Nora Troxell was named librarian at Valley High School in Lonaconing when it opened in 1953 and continued until her retirement in 1970. Taube said, “We are always grateful to be remembered in an estate gift to improve our collections, and this year it is especially welcome. We will use the funds to continue to offer the community the wide variety of reading material that Ms. Troxell enjoyed.” None/ (Click for larger image)
