Potomac State in top 50

KEYSER — Potomac State College of West Virginia University was named one of the top 50 associate degree producers in the nation for Natural Resources and Conservation as reported this summer by Community College Week, a national, biweekly independent source of in-depth information for and about two-year college faculty, administrators and trustees.

For its annual report of top degree producers, Community College Week used data reported by the institutions to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, or IPEDS, which is run by the National Center for Education Statistics. Community College Week compared, and then ranked, the number and average annual increase in associate degrees awarded between 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, the most recent year for which data are available.

Included under the Natural Resources and Conservation field of study are Potomac State’s Forest Resources Production and Management and General Forestry courses. Potomac State tied for the 33rd ranking having graduated 10 students along with Hawaii Community College, Hawaii; Columbia College-Sonora, Calif.; and Southeastern Community College-Whiteville, N.C. in academic year 2006-2007.

Potomac State College offers an associate of arts degree in forestry with majors in recreation and parks management, resource management, wildlife resources and wood industries.
