Anger management class Nov. 13

For the Cumberland Times-News
Cumberland Times-News

CUMBERLAND — Anger, the most unpredictable and powerful of emotions, will be examined Nov. 13 in a new continuing education course designed to help participants and those around them.

Dealing With Anger will examine how the anger button is pushed in the work place and within personal relationships to help cope more effectively with anger in positive ways.

Topics in the daylong course include understanding the pathways and triggers of anger, identification of anger cues, effective strategies for diffusing anger and recognizing the potential of anger as a learning tool.

The instructor is educational training consultant Gary Durr, who retired as ACM vice president of continuing education and community services in 2008. Previously he was associate professor of mental health and chair of ACM’s Human Resources Division.

Durr has designed and conducted workshops and seminars for wide-ranging organizations in education, human services, health care and corrections as well as numerous professional groups.

For the past 18 years Durr has been the consultant responsible for development and delivery of the peer-helper training program in Allegany County public schools.

The course meets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in ACM’s Center for Continuing Education.

For more information, contact Rebecca Hadra, director of professional development and extended learning at ACM at (301)-784-5338.

To register call (301) 784-5341. Information is also available on the college Website, www.allegany.edu
