ACM scholars announced

CUMBERLAND - The Allegany College of Maryland Foundation has announced the awarding of scholarships to 15 students for study in the 2006-07 academic year.
* Ben Anderson of Cumberland was awarded a DuRocher-Woodworth Scholarship for Nursing. A nursing major, he has worked at Friends Aware for more than three years. A 1995 graduate of Miami Beach (Fla.) Senior High School who also studied at the University of Florida, he is the son of Aila and Tom Anderson.
* Zachary Broadwater of Frostburg received a Chessie Federal Credit Union Scholarship. He is a business administration major. A 2005 graduate of Allegany High School who works at Sheetz in Corriganville, he is the son Brian and Galye Broadwater.
* Jonathan Brown of Linden, Va., was presented an ACM Presidential Scholarship. He is a forest technology major. A 2006 graduate of Warren County High School, he is the son of Robert and Susan Brown.
* Tambrea Gaba of Cumberland was awarded the Dr. Magno and Barbara Roque Scholarship. She is a nursing major. A 1990 graduate of Allegany High School, she is the mother of four children, Courtland Gaba and Camden, Leighton and Dezianna Winans.
* Maria Harper of Cumberland received a Charles S. Catherman Memorial Office Technologies Scholarship. A 1987 graduate of W.C. Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colo., her prior work experience includes Centenary Children’s House in Portsmouth, Va., and Norfolk (Va.) Tides baseball. She's currently with Bedford Road Volunteer Fire Department's bingo operation. She is the mother of three sons, Andrew, Jacob and Trey Harper.
* Sarah Jones of Lonaconing was awarded the Kiwanis Club of Cumberland Scholarship. An early childhood education major who graduated from Westmar High School in 2005, she works at Quiznos Sub Shop. She is the daughter of William and Sylvia Jones.
* Amanda Kruise of Frostburg earned a Student Ambassador Scholarship. She is a human service associate major. A 1996 graduate of Beall High School, she is employed as a work-study in ACM's career programs area. Married to Robert Kruise, she is the mother of four children, Paige Ginevan and Racheal, Taylor and Cameron Walker.
* Tina Lohr of Cumberland was awarded a G.E.D. Scholarship. She is a nursing-interest student and is the office manager at The Bowler Inc. in LaVale. She and her husband, Brian, are the parents of three children, Bambi, Elizabeth and Nicolas.
* Kailee Martin of LaVale received the Allegany County High School Student Council Scholarship. She is a pharmacy-interest student. A 2006 graduate of Allegany High School who began her ACM studies on an early college basis, she works at Walsh-McCagh & Kellough Pharmacy and Shenk and Tittle Sporting Goods. She is the daughter of Karen and Tim Martin.
* Daniel Monahan of Midland received the ACM Alumni Association Scholarship. He is a computer technology major. A 2005 graduate of Westmar High School, he is the son of John and Rocbelle Monahan.
* Leigh Oates of Cumberland was awarded both the Margaret and John J. Long Memorial Scholarship and the Darlene Jones Integrative Health Memorial Scholarship. She is a human service associate major who works at Friends Aware. A 2001 Allegany High School graduate, she is the daughter of Rodney and Debra Oates.
* Amy Poe of Cumberland was presented the Western Maryland Health System Scholarship. She is a dental hygiene major. A 2004 graduate of Fort Hill High School, she works at the American Eagle Outfitters store in LaVale. She is the daughter of Rich and Sarah Poe.
* Melissa Stevens of Frostburg received a Mark and Judy Stern Academic Scholarship. She is a forest technology major. A 2006 graduate of Beall High School, she has worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service. She is the daughter of Ken and Barb Stevens.
* Cristen Thomas of Frostburg was awarded the Droze G. and Margaret Hott Zembower Scholarship. She is a secondary education major. A 2001 graduate of Allegany High School, she is the daughter of Julian and Susan Thomas.
* Tara Workman-Williams of Cumberland received the St. Thomas Circle Scholarship. A social work major, she is employed at Ray of Hope Inc.
She is a 1987 graduate of Woodland High School and the mother of four children, Taleah, Kevin and Kenneth Jr. Workman and Tarna Williams.
