CRESAPTOWN — On Dec. 18, the Center for Career and Technical Education held its sixth annual Skills Showcase featuring skills in 17 of the school’s occupational areas. The in-house showcase is the first step in what could ultimately be a national competition for the level-one participating students once they become seniors.
The purpose of the Skills Showcase is not only to reward students for their hard work, but to also keep training relevant to local employers’ needs. Judges for this competition were business industry volunteers chosen by the teachers of each skill area. The criteria used to score each skill varied by area and by judge. Each skill was timed and scored on a numeric rating scale.
An awards assembly was held on Dec. 19 in the Career Center’s auditorium. All participants earned a certificate of participation. Place winners were also awarded medals.
