Petersburg artist publishes cartoon collection

For the Cumberland Times-News

PETERSBURG, W.Va. - No matter how hard or how unpredictable life can get, funny things can still happen and leave you smiling at the end of your day.

For author and award-winning cartoonist Roy Delgado, the unexpected has its way of amusing people and as such, there's always something ironic waiting to happen.

In a new book, titled "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The New Yorker," Delgado shares his visualization about life and people.

Published by Xlibris, the cartoon collection is a compilation of the author's many cartoons that appeared in numerous magazines over the years. Carefully mixing humor and wit, the cartoons reflect the many events of society such as customers trying out new shoes, dogs acting like homeowners, candidates campaigning for government posts, board meetings, financial analysts discussing graphs, and father-and-son discussions. Each cartoon is accompaied with one-liners.

Delgado hails from Tucson, Ariz. After high school graduation, he attended The Billy Hon Art School in Los Angeles, Calif. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and after his discharge from the military in Washington, D.C., attended The Corcoran School of Arts where he studied anatomy.

For several years he worked in the deserts of Arizona as a billboard sign painter for the 3M Company with stints as a sign designer for large neon sign companies. All the time his magazine cartoons began to appear in many major magazines throughout the country and the world. He now lives with his wife Betty and their two cats in his mountaintop home and studio in Petersburg, where he draws cartoons full time.

His drawings have ap-peared in Reader's Digest, Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Saturday Evening Post and Good Housekeeping.

The book should be available in local bookstores or may be purchased at Xlibris bookstore.
