Mountain Ridge presenting spring concert

FROSTBURG - A concert of contemporary and traditional band music will be presented at Mountain Ridge High School on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The concert will serve as the culmination of the band program's first year with a variety of works to showcase the versatility of the school's band. The band will perform contemporary works including Bela Bartok's "Allegro Barbaro," Brian Balmages' "Summer Dances" and Jay Dawson's "McGavock March," along with traditional and popular selections to include Frank Ticheli's "Cajun Folk Songs" and Warren Barker's "New York - 1927". Barker's composition is a portrayal of New York City during the "Roaring Twenties," with references to ragtime and the blues, along with a depiction of the busy street scene typical of the heart of midtown Manhattan.

Additionally, the school's percussion ensemble will perform selections that highlight the development of the school's percussion students. Selections include "The Final Pursuit," "Matrix Minuet," "Synergy" and "The Evening News."

The band and percussion ensemble are under the direction of David Kauffman.
