Embassy holding contest for playwrights

Winners’ works will be staged in the spring

CUMBERLAND — The New Embassy Theatre is conducting a One Act Play Contest, with entries judged as best being staged next spring.

The competition is open to original, unproduced one-act plays written by local or former residents or set locally, within 50 miles of Cumberland.

Plays must have a unit set, eight or fewer cast members, and scripts must be no longer than 40 pages at 11-point type. The deadline for submission is Feb. 15.

Two copies of each script can be mailed or dropped off to the New Embassy Theatre, 49 Baltimore St., Cumberland, MD 21502. A panel of judges will read the scripts and two or three will be selected for production in April by the New Embassy’s Board of Directors at its March 8 meeting.
