CUMBERLAND — Celebrated children’s author and illustrator Henry Cole will speak to children in his Pirate Den on Wednesday at 10 and 11 a.m. at the Palace Theater on Main Street in Frostburg, part of Frostburg’s “Pirates Ahoy.”
The city of Frostburg will once again be the site of a pirate invasion as the Children’s Literature Centre at Frostburg State University and Frostburg First team up to provide a day of pirate merriment, tales and treats.
Cole has illustrated more than 50 books for children, including “Shiver Me Letters: A Pirate’s ABC” by June Sobel, and he is the author and illustrator of the novel “A Nest for Celeste,” picture book “Jack’s Garden” and several other books of his own.
Buccaneer activities, including crafts and a treasure-hunt, will take place throughout the day, beginning with registration at 9:30 a.m. at City Place on Water Street. Visiting pirates will be challenged to discover the secret pirates’ den, where pirate stories and songs will be shared. All are encouraged to dress as pirates.
Frostburg businesses and restaurants will be open, with special bargains for visiting buccaneers.
