United Way of Garrett County will hold its annual meeting Wednesday, July 9, at 9 a.m. at Perkins Restaurant, McHenry. Jeannette Fitzwater, president, will review activities of the past year, the recently completed campaign and the election of new members to the executive committee.

The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet Wednesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at the Ponderosa Restaurant, Winchester Road, LaVale. Breakfast or lunch may be ordered.
Tickets for the Sept. 10 will be available.

Ali Ghan Shrine Unit Heads will meet Wednesday, July 9, at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Room of the Ali Ghan Shrine Club.

The Allegany County Retired Teachers Association will meet Thursday, July 10, at noon at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club. Jon Bauman will preside over the meeting.
Lorian Deuel and William Davis will be in charge of table decorations and Vicki Linn and John Jones will serve as greeters. Lynn Nelson will give the invocation and Nancy Robeson will do the order of service.
Scholarship recipients will be guests at the meeting. Ruth Chapman and Roslyn Buchanan, members of the scholarship committee, will present the scholarships.

The Planning Committee for the 2008 Luke Homecoming will meet Thursday, July 10, at 6 p.m., at the Luke City Building. Homecoming festivities will take place Aug. 17.

The A. Mike Walters Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters will hold a breakfast meeting Saturday, July 12, at 8:30 a.m. at the Midland Fire Hall. The host company's auxiliary will serve the meal.
Betty Grabenstein, president, Company 7, will conduct the business meeting and will give highlights of the June convention of the Allegany Garrett County Fire and Rescue Association.

The Dawnview Center, Fort Ashby, W.Va., will host an employee family picnic Saturday, July 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Past and current employees are invited to bring their families for an afternoon of activities and games for all ages.
A picnic lunch and refreshments will be provided and those attending are to bring lawn chairs.

The meeting is open to the public, and the library building is handicapped accessible through the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance.

The Western Maryland Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, will hold a political issue roundtable discussion Thursday, July 17, at 7 p.m. at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Hall, 2 Park St., Cumberland. The purpose of the roundtable is to discuss issues in the upcoming presidential election. Participants will include Norma Blacke Bourdeau, NAACP; Lee Borrer; James Combs; the Rev. Sherrill Dillon, Second Baptist Church; and Jim Ortiz, South Cumberland Business Association.
Light refreshments will be served following the discussion.

Sears, Retirees 2774 will hold its annual picnic Monday July 21, at noon at Prosperity United Methodist Church picnic grounds, Pleasant Valley Road, near Rocky Gap State Park. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided and those attending are to bring a covered dish, dessert, drinks and place settings.

The deadline to make reservations for the AARP Chapter 2400's annual picnic is Monday, July 21.
The picnic will take place Thursday, July 24, at noon at Marydale picnic grounds. Members are to bring donations of non-perishable food for local food parties and a food basket raffle.
