Mary F. (Seymour) Shaffer [Cumberland]
Mary Frances (Seymour) Shaffer, 83, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at WHMS-Memorial Campus.
Born Jan. 16, 1925 in Newport, Ky., she was the daughter of the late David C. and Marie B. (Redmond) Seymour. She was also preceded in death by her husband, R. Donald Shaffer in 1997; and three brothers-in-law Hugh, Perry and John Hart.
Mrs. Shaffer was a homemaker and former employee of Rosenbaum Department Store in the sportswear department. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church, also attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church frequently and was a member of 4th District Democratic Women’s Club, Cumberland Eagles and Elks Auxiliary, Women’s Sportsmen Club and the K of C Ladies Auxiliary. She was a cat lover and was a wonderful Aunt to all of her nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Surviving are her sister, Julia “Judy” Martin Pariser and husband Rodney, Cumberland; niece, Carole M. Abbott and husband John R., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; nephew, Thomas E. Martin and wife Alice, Hagerstown; great-nieces, Michelle M. Abbott, Columbus, Ohio and Tara N. Smith and husband Rodney, Columbus; a great-nephew, John T. Abbott, Toldedo, Ohio; a great-great niece, Alexa N. Smith; a great-great nephew, Jake M. Smith; and two step-nephews, Jeffrey S. Pariser, Tennessee and Ray A. Pariser, Florida.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland (scarpellifh.com) on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
A Christian wake will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with Father Bernard Finerty as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jack McMullen, Mark Weatherholt, Rodney Smith, W. Timothy Finan and Todd Finan.
Family requests contributions to be sent to St. Anthony’s Place at SS Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church.
