GORMANIA, W.Va. — Gertrude G. Schaeffer, 100, of Gormania, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008 at her home.

Born Aug. 15, 1908 in Dobin, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward R. and Laura C. Rager. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Schaeffer; two sons, Edward R. and David Lee Schaeffer; one grandchild, Edward Charles “Skip” Schaeffer; and one great grandson, Brandon Tiffany.

Mrs. Schaeffer was an active member of the Gormania United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She and her husband operated the Ft. Pendleton Service Station on Rt. 50. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active volunteer at the voting polls.

Surviving is one daughter, Betty Burton of Scottsboro, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Nita Schaeffer of Gormania; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her very dear caregivers and friends.

The family will receive friends at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, Md., on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at the Mount Storm Cemetery, Mount Storm, W.Va., with the Rev. William McCallister officiating.
