Alco dumps Hedgesville

No. 1 Campers overcome 16-point deficit, win 55-53

CUMBERLAND - Top-ranked Allegany worked its way out of a huge hole, coming all the way back from a 16-point halftime deficit to defeat Hedgesville, 55-53, Monday at Allegany.

The Eagles (13-4), the No. 9-rated team in West Virginia Class AAA, took a 15-9 lead after the first quarter, and then raced to a 35-19 halftime lead. In the third, however, Allegany outscored the Eagles 16-10 to cut the deficit to 10 points, then closed the game with a fury by finishing with a 20-8 run.

DeTonia DeGross led the Campers (14-2) with 14 points, seven rebounds, five steals and six assists. Brianna Twigg scored 13 points, and Jenna Mathews scored 12 points.

Hedgesville was led by Brittany Kolb with 15 points, and Greyson Brooks with 12 points.

Hedgesville won the junior varsity game, 31-30. Jess Mason scored 12 for Hedgesville, while Arneshia Ross and Audrey Eisentrout both scored six for Allegany.

Allegany will play Wednesday at Fort HiIl.
