No. 2 Southern beats Tucker 62-54

MCHENRY — Shayna Sweitzer led Southern in scoring and rebounding, and the Rams defense stopped a Tucker comeback in a 62-54 win Thursday at Garrett College.
Sweitzer finished with 24 points and six rebounds to pace the Rams. Brittany Boyce finished with 18 points, and Kerry Conroy added 13.
Southern led 17-12 after the first quarter, and 35-24 at the half. The Rams then stretched the lead to 17 points (52-35) by the end of the third before being outscored 19-10 in the fourth.
Lyndsey Nestor recorded a game-high 27 points for Tucker (16-2), ranked No. 4 in West Virginia Class A. Anna Hebb and Stephanie Bennett scored 12 points.
Southern won the jayvee game 39-25 behind Claire Wilkinson’s 14 points.
Southern (14-4) will host Frankfort on Monday.
