Mountain Ridge beats Keyser 51-37

KEYSER — Mountain Ridge created some distance from Keyser during the third quarter of the Miners’ win that finished the Golden Tornado’s regular season.

Keyser held a 9-6 lead after one quarter of play, and the Miners made a move in the second to take a 21-19 lead into halftime. The Miners outscored Keyser 15-7 during the third, and then added a few points before the fourth ended.

Holly Williams posted 17 points for Mountain Ridge to lead all scorers. Madi Nightengale finished by scoring 16 points, grabbing eight boards and passing out three assists.

No one from Keyser scored in double figures, but Christina Koontz had nine points and Brittani Riley added eight.

The Miners also won the jayvee game, 41-34.

Mountain Ridge (11-8) continues its regular season at Northern on Monday.

Keyser (5-16) will play a West Virginia AA Sectional Playoff game with Petersburg, at Petersburg, on Wednesday.
