Getty rallies Alco by Frankfort, 59-48

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

CUMBERLAND — Elizabeth Getty scored 11 of her team-high 15 points in the second half to help rally top-ranked Allegany to a 59-48 victory over third-ranked Frankfort for the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference championship Saturday night at Campobello.

The win moves Allegany to 17-2 overall and a conference-clinching 12-1 mark in the league’s inaugural season.

DeTonia DeGross had 14 points, four steals and four assists, and Jenna Mathews nine points and eight rebounds to help Allegany to its seventh straight win.

“I’m happy for the kids. We demand a lot of their time and it’s good to see them recognized for all their hard work,’’ said Allegany head coach Jim O’Neal. “The girls played like they always do — incredibly hard. That’s the way they’ve played in all 19 games.”

Mariah Miller had 14 points and Diane Dayton and Aira Whiteman 12 for Frankfort, now 12-5 overall and 9-4 in the AMAC. Dayton also had game highs with nine rebounds and seven steals.

The game was tied at 13 after one quarter and Frankfort held a 27-25 lead at halftime.

Allegany, on top 40-39 after the third quarter, outscored Frankfort 19-9 in the fourth. The Campers went 9-for-11 from the foul line in the final period, with Brianna Twigg 4-for-4.

“The key to the game was that our kids were able to keep their composure for all four quarters,’’ said O’Neal. “Frankfort played very hard and we kept our composure, handled the pressure and performed well.”

Frankfort visits Southern on Monday and Allegany plays at Mountain Ridge on Wednesday.

Frankfort won the jayvee game 38-27 with Morghan Snyder scoring 14 points. Allie Getty had eight for Allegany.
