Southern wins in OT

OAKLAND - Overtime was needed Monday evening as the second, and third-ranked teams in the Times-News Area Poll jockeyed for second place in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference with the Rams pulling out a one-point, 68-67, win.

Torie Bosley made five field goals, but all of them were from outside the three-point line, and the junior was 7-for-10 from the free throw line to finish with 22 points. Shayna Sweitzer added 18 points and six rebounds, while Brittany Boyce scored seven points to go with five rebounds.

The teams were very similar from the foul line. Southern finished 22-of-36, while the Falcons made 21-of-35. Three players from Southern, and two from Frankfort fouled out during the physical contest.

Frankfort held on to a 14-11 lead following the first period, but the team were locked at 29 by halftime. Southern took a five-point, 44-39 lead into the fourth, but needed to make up some ground by the end of regulation to force overtime.

Anna Keefer scored 12 points for Southern in its 40-35 win during the jayvee game. Allie Lantz scored 12 for the Falcons.

Allegany clinched the AMAC with a win over Frankfort on Saturday, but Southern is now 8-4 in the league while Frankfort slips to 9-5.

Southern, 15-4 overall, hosts Bishop Walsh on Wednesday. Frankfort (12-7) starts the playoffs on Wednesday.
