Seton Keough heads 14th BWGIT field

CUMBERLAND - The field is set for the 14th annual Bishop Walsh Girls Invitational Tournament, March 6-8 at Bishop Walsh School, with defending champion Notre Dame of Middleburg, Va. heading the field. Notre Dame is 24-2 and ranked No. 4 in the country by USA Today.

The No. 1 team in Baltimore, Seton Keough, returns to the BWGIT as the Gators are 28-4 and ranked No. 8 in the East by USA Today. The other Baltimore squad in the field is St. Frances with a 25-3 record and the No. 10 ranking in the East by USA Today.

Four Washington area schools will participate in this year's BWGIT: Good Counsel, with a 26-2 record and the No. 5 ranking in the Washington Post; Bishop McNamara, returning at 21-6 and the No. 11 ranking in the Post; Holy Cross, 16-9 after a recent close loss to Bishop McNamara; and Georgetown Visitation, 26-3 and the No. 1-ranked team in the Independent School AA League.

Host team Bishop Walsh rounds out the field.

The tournament will be held March 6-8 at Bishop Walsh and tickets will be available at the door. Starting times are 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, 3 p.m. on Friday, and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
