Keyser beats Petersburg

Proietti pitches Keyser past Petersburg, 3-1

KEYSER - Corey Proietti fired a two-hitter and Keyser scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Petersburg 3-1 Thursday evening at John Kruk Field.

Proietti had eight strike outs and didn't allow a walk in picking up the complete-game victory. Petersburg's Jami Rohrbaugh pitched well in the loss. He held Keyser to six hits, struck out four and didn't allow a walk.

Colton Jones was Keyser's leading hitter with a double and a single. Tyler Rohrbaugh and Cody Spotts each had a double and Tommy Stark had an RBI single in the second inning that game the Golden Tornado a 1-0 lead that held up until the sixth inning.

Petersburg tied the game on Ben McAbee's RBI double. He scored Dustin Dayton who also doubled for the Vikings two hits.

Keyser retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Daniel Zinn, who led off with a single, scored off of a throwing error on Jones' single after being caught in a rundown between third and home. Jones, who reached second on the play, was lifted for pinch-runner Tyler Fraley. Fraley took third on a passed ball and then scored an insurance run off of a wild pitch.

Petersburg (9-13) hosts Hedgesville today in a doubleheader. Keyser (10-10) visits Hedgesville on Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
