PETERSBURG - Pendleton County wasted little time in going after the West Virginia Class A Region 2, Section 3 title when the Wildcats scored five times in the first inning of a 7-1 win over Tucker County.
The win will send the Cats to the regional playoffs where they will meet the winner of the Moorefield vs. East Hardy contest. That game is scheduled for Monday, May 19.
Trey Linaburg collected the win on the mound, and provided three runs batted in at the plate. He hit a two-run double in the first inning when Pendleton got five runs across, and then hit a RBI single in the later innings. Phil Weimer and Kyle Puffenberger had one RBI single each.
Tucker, which finished with five hits, but made five errors, was led by Corey McWilliams with two singles.
Linaburg and David Bowers combined to strikeout 11 batters, walk four others and give up five hits.
The Wildcats will enter the next round of the playoffs with a 22-9 record.
