CUMBERLAND - Cody Ellsworth homered and singled twice, and Matt Leasure doubled home the go-ahead run in a four-run fifth inning that rallied seventh-seeded Allegany to a 7-6 win over 10th-seeded Poolesville in their Class 1A West Region playoff game at a sunny Campobello on Tuesday.
Coach Duane McMinn's Campers, 5-1 in their last six games and 11-6 overall, play at second-seeded Clear Spring in the quarterfinal round today at 4:30.
Allegany led early, 3-1, but trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the fifth. The Campers quickly went to work with Cody Jefferys, Sean Collette and Ellsworth getting consecutive singles to load the bases.
After a pop out, John Carpenter stroked a two-run single up the middle to cut it to 6-5, and J.D. Hook's sacrifice fly to center tied it 6-6. Leasure followed with a double to left center to put the Campers on top.
Reliever Chris Wilson finished with a scoreless sixth and seventh innings.
Ellsworth finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two singles and two runs scored as Allegany outhit Poolesville 13-7. Leasure doubled, singled and knocked in two runs, Wilson and Collette singled twice, and Hook doubled.
Ellsworth homered and Leasure and Wilson had RBI singles in the second inning to give Allegany a 3-1 lead.
Wilson got the win, allowing two hits in three innings. Ellsworth pitched the first four innings and struck out eight.
Nick Loftus had two singles and Drew Karlin two RBIs for Poolesville (8-8).
