Moorefield upended in Region 2 final

Six-run sixth sends Notre Dame to 10-4 win

PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Notre Dame broke a 4-4 tie with a six-run sixth inning and earned a trip to the Class A State Tournament by beating Moorefield, 10-4, for the Region 2 championship Wednesday evening at Petersburg High School.

Notre Dame (17-6) took the first lead of the night in the first inning when it scored three times. The Yellow Jackets negated the three runs with three of their own in the bottom of the second, and took a 4-3 lead with a run in the third.

Notre Dame tied the score in the fourth and broke it open with six in the fourth.

Harrison Musgrave worked all seven innings and struck out 12 for the win for Notre Dame. Mike Shawi and Alex Marinaro went 2-for-3, and Chris Stanton doubled. Musgrave had two hits and three RBIs.

Tanner Burns hit a single and clubbed a solo home run for that put Moorefield ahead in the third inning. Shawn Hibbard went 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

Moorefield finishes the season 20-5.
