CUMBERLAND - Cierra Miller pitched a five-inning no-hitter and had 13 strikeouts as unbeaten Fort Hill shut out Southern, 13-0, in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference game shortened by the 10-run rule Thursday at Long Field.
The victory makes the Sentinels 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference. Southern falls to 3-3 and 1-3.
Fort Hill jumped out to a 6-0 lead with four runs in the first inning and two in the second. The Sentinels concluded the scoring with seven runs in the fourth.
Adria Lewis hit three singles to lead Fort Hill's 15-hit attack. Miller, Kathryn Huber, Shari Beavers and Lauren Fansler added two singles each, and Olivia Stanley doubled.
Alex Schupfer had a strong defensive game as the Fort Hill catcher.
Southern had only four base runners on three walks and an error.
Fort Hill will host Mountain Ridge on Monday at 4 p.m. at Long Field. Southern (3-3 overall, 1-3 AMAC) will host Keyser on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
