Moorefield outlasts Frankfort, 11-10

SHORT GAP - Third-ranked Moorefield and Frankfort combined for 16 hits and 16 errors as the Yellow Jackets outlasted the Falcons 11-10 Wednesday at Frankfort High School.
In a see-saw battle, the Falcons left Courtney Dolly, the tying run on third, in the bottom of a scoreless seventh inning. With one out, Dolly led off with a walk after forcing close to a 10 pitch at-bat. She stole second and took third on a ground out.
Maddie Elmore and Laci Fitzwater led the Yellow Jackets with two hits apiece. Elmore scored three times and Fitzwater crossed the plate twice.
Frankfort's Rachal Alkire and Savannah Hose each had three singles and scored three times. Kristi Salonish doubled and had two singles.
The score was tied 1-1 after the first inning and stayed there until the fourth inning, where the Falcons took a 5-4 lead. It was 6-5 after the fifth inning before Moorefield took its 11-10 lead with six sixth-inning runs. Frankfort scored four times in the bottom of the inning.
Frankfort out-hit the Yellow Jackets, 9-7, while Moorefield had nine errors to the Falcons' seven.
The pitchers for both teams combined for six strike outs each. Sam Markwood started for the Yellow Jackets before Bridgette Ours relieved in the fourth inning. Frankfort's Lace Shaw started and was relieved by Taylor Rice in the sixth inning.
Moorefield (12-4), winners of three of its last four games and seven of its last nine, visits fifth-ranked East Hardy tonight. Frankfort (9-7) will participate in the Bub Riggleman Memorial Tournament at Moorefield Friday and Saturday.
